Achy heart...

So when you get to this point- having a child in elementary school- I am now a firm believer that you wear your heart on your sleeve. Brandon had a Field Trip to Greenacres Elementary school this morning to tour the school for next Fall when he'll be a 1st grader there. A couple of us moms joined the group to help with the kids and for me, I enjoyed the tour as well, being that this is my first-born entering the school. Here they are riding the bus into the school grounds... I had the take a picture of them by the bus! Aw mo-om!! Walking through the hallways..
And then getting some playground time in this glorious sunshine!
We headed back to the K center where the kids earned a pizza party through reading lots of minutes this month- Brandon has claimed for the past 6 months he doesn't like pizza anymore (weirdo!! ha!) but today he ate it all with no complaints!

This whole experience is so different when you're the parent and not the teacher (as I was before Brandon was born). When I taught 1st grade I had no clue as to what it would feel like to be on the other side as the parent. I'm happy to say that I think it gives me a greater sense of understanding about how "it takes a village" to raise a child. I'm very supportive of the roles our educators take, and how hard parents work and volunteer to make a difference in our schools.

The hardest part next year? Letting go of my son...putting him on the bus at 8:30am and trusting that the men and women who surround him to support and teach him and are kind and respectful, helpful and non-judgemental, and remember that my child isn't just another "child" - he's a soul that I've raised since birth who I'm trusting them with. *sigh* Could this get any harder??

Wow Ang. I can say that I'm not there yet, but I totally don't envy you! I dread the day I have to face that big yellow bus that has come to claim my child for the great unknown. I have already decided that I'm taking a flask to Starbucks after I put Tucker on the school bus for the first time. I could come meet you in the fall and be you DD for the day! Hugs for you!!!
